What's working at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School?
Changing Patterns of Behavior
"You can't learn if you're not in school." --Betsy Rains, Principal |
One new way that Paul Laurence Dunbar High School is meeting the needs of at risk students is by ending traditional school punishment. Instead of suspending students for serious or repeated rules violations, students are staying in school. In the first semester of the 2012-13 school year, 82 students were suspended. For the 2013-14 school year, no students have been suspended. Along with in-school consequences similar to SAFE, students also have targeted interventions that focus on changing behaviors.
