What's working at the Martin Luther King Jr. Academy?
Employability Matrix (EOS)
|
Some of our students will never make the choice to go to college. This is a fact. So, how can the school system better prepare these students to become a productive member of the job force? There are soft-skills that are not assessed that make a difference in the success of child in the classroom. None of these have been measured until now. How would you like to take a daily look at how “employable” your students are?
The Life Support Software was created by to make a “living” document and data collector of how students are doing in terms of their employability. Students at TLC (The Learning Center) are measured on the following components: arriving to class on time, bringing proper materials to class, Interacting positively with staff and peers, staying on task (being productive), using appropriate language and leaving class in a respectful manner. At MLK (Martin Luther King Jr. Academy), the first five tenets are used to record the progress of students. Each period teachers have an eRoster that shows the students in class and a drop down box with each of these tenets of the Employability Matrix. Each tenet is checked, so the teacher “unchecks” the box if the student fails to meet the standard of how a worker would be viewed in the work place. |
